Gold in 2009: the year in review

The Federal Reserve began large-scale bond buying (quantitative easing) in March 2009. In November the Reserve Bank of India bought 200 tonnes of gold from the International Monetary Fund, a sign that central banks were turning from sellers into buyers, and gold passed $1,200 in December.
